Supreme Court Upholds TikTok Ban
As of Sunday, January 19, TikTok will “go dark.”
The Supreme Court has upheld a law requiring ByteDance to divest its U.S. operations or cease operations altogether. App stores and internet hosting services will no longer be allowed to distribute TikTok—marking the end of a months-long legal battle.
Here’s why this matters:
Data Security – The U.S. government argues TikTok’s Chinese ownership poses a national security risk.
Free Speech Concerns – TikTok argued the ban violates the First Amendment but was overruled.
What’s next? – Will TikTok evolve without its algorithm, or fade entirely in the U.S.?
