Canada's Competition Bureau is taking on Google

Yesterday, the Bureau filed an application accusing Google of anti-competitive practices in online advertising.

They’re demanding that Google sell two of its ad tech tools and comply with Canada’s competition laws.

Google’s response?

“Our tools empower businesses of all sizes to reach new customers in a highly competitive market. We look forward to making our case in court.”

Here’s the bigger picture:

Yes, regulators worldwide are cracking down on Big Tech, with similar cases in the U.S. and EU. But let’s not overlook one key point—Google’s dominance stems from its superior technology and relentless innovation.

Their ad tech helps websites, apps, and businesses thrive by offering tools that simply work better.

Critics say Google has too much market power. But isn’t market power a byproduct of delivering unmatched value? If businesses keep choosing Google, doesn’t that reflect the quality of its solutions rather than unfair practices?

The real question is: Should we punish success when it’s earned through innovation?

Let’s not confuse effective market leadership with monopolistic behavior.
