Starting today, anyone who has enabled sharing to the fediverse on Instagram Threads can follow people across services like Mastodon, Pixelfed, and PeerTube.
Here’s what that means:
You can see all posts from someone’s profile—no matter where they’re hosted.
You’ll get notifications on Threads when they post elsewhere in the fediverse.
It’s another step towards Meta’s goal of full interoperability.
This move builds on changes from October, where Threads started showing likes and replies from fediverse users. If you’ve ever felt limited by traditional social media silos, this update is a breath of fresh air.
